Visitors to the Scenic Rim region can participate in some outdoor recreation on the water with three lakes, all popular for boating, water skiing, fishing and rowing within the area including:
- Lake Moogerah
- Lake Maroon
- Lake Wyaralong
If you’re taking a day trip to the National Park, visitors can spend a few hours exploring the area known as the West Canungra Creek Circuit in the Green Mountains section of Lamington Park; a 14km hike which features creeks, cascades, waterfalls and pools. This part of the track is easy to follow and will give you access to some beautiful views of lush rainforest and take you past Darraboola Falls to Yerralahla Pool. Just be mindful that although the water looks inviting, avoid swimming here because of the large eels that come to the water’s edge and say hello when they hear you coming!
Looking for something less adventurous but equally tranquil? A little closer to the Canungra Hotel you can escape down the road into the Showgrounds where you can find an awesome shady spot underneath the trees to listen to the birds and fresh running water whilst enjoying a picnic with family and friends. Here, you’ll be able to float along the water, bring out your paddle board or just skim rocks along the surface relieving your childhood memories. This family friendly waterhole is perfect to cool down without needing too much forward planning.
If you’ve taken a road trip to visit us in the region, we highly recommend after you’ve finished exploring come fuel up with a feed in the bistro before tackling the journey home.
